Laser Tube Cutting System
Description
The
LT Family of Laser Tube Cutting Systems have been designed specifically
for laser tube cutting with the following advantages:
·
No hard tooling to make, store, or maintain;
·
Better accuracy and repeatability than mechanical cutoff methods;
·
Quick and easy changeover from one tube type to another;
·
Economic fabrication in smaller lot sizes;
·
Fast and flexible part changes through program modifications
only.
Automatic focus control will be implemented on the
vertical axis. A nozzle
assembly will be provided to deliver high-pressure shield gasses
needed for clean-cutting and will have a crash protection mechanism.
An Alta84 Control has been developed specifically
for laser applications, and includes a touch-screen operator
panel with a Windows interface.
This control has been developed with standard PC-based
components for high reliability, low cost, and easy service.
It will be used to run all system axes, provide the user
interface, perform all machine I/O, and provide control of the
laser.
Programming
Parts will be programmed with conventional G and
M codes (RS274). Built-in features programs are provided as
part of the Alta84 Control.
Built-ins include end-profiling and internal cutouts.
Ends can be profiled to intersect with other tubes of
various diameters and angles, or flat plates.
Internal cutouts include through holes for pins, slots,
and other features.
A post-processor for Mastercam is available as an
option.
Safety
This system is proposed as a CDRH class IV system. A CDRH Class I enclosure is available as an
option. A CDRH report
(required by FDA for laser products) will be submitted by <<>>
before shipment. Circuit protection, wire gages, and wire colors
have been designed according to NFPA 79 specifications.
All wires and terminal positions are labeled and all
wires are properly secured in wire-ways, wire ties, or by other
means.
All panels that provide access to circuits at more
than 50 volt potential are labeled and require a tool to gain
access.

Equipment
Non-round tube profiles
The LT family of Laser Tube Cutting Systems
has the capacity to handle non-round tube profiles including
rectangular, square and ob-round.
This option includes:
- Software for corner tracking
- Special adapters to the chuck and steady rests
to accommodate rectangular tube profiles
Automated tube handling
An automatic tube feeding system will hold
up to 8000 lbs of raw tube stock and feed them automatically
into the tube cutter.
Postprocessor
A postprocessor for Mastercam is available
as an option. This postprocessor
will allow the direct generation of part programs from design
programs such as SolidWorks or ProE.
Finished Part Management
Only finished parts up to 14” are provided
for in the standard product.
Parts longer than that
must be supported on the outfeed side and either manually
unloaded or provided for with an automatic unload option.
The features and price of this option depends on the
range of part sizes cut. |

Laser Tube Cutoff System
Description
The
proposed laser tube cutoff system will be comprised of a laser
source, beam delivery optics, a high level controller, and tube
handling equipment. It
has been designed specifically for laser tube cutting so it
has the following advantages:
·
No hard tooling to make, store, or maintain;
·
Quick and easy changeover from one tube type to another;
·
Fabricate in smaller lot sizes;
·
Fast and flexible part changes through program modifications
only.
Beam delivery optics will be provided to circularly
polarize the beam and deliver it to the focus lens.
A manual, micrometer based, Z-axis adjuster will be provided
for focus control and for different tube diameters.
A nozzle assembly will be provided to deliver shield
gasses needed for cutting and will have a crash protection mechanism.
An
Alta84 Control, developed specifically for laser applications,
is also included. This
control will be used to provide the user interface, run all
system axes, perform all auxiliary equipment control, and provide
control of the laser.
Programming
Parts will be programmed with conventional
G and M codes (RS274).
Safety
This system is proposed as a CDRH class IV
system (i.e., no enclosure of the working area will be provided). A CDRH Class I enclosure is available as an option. A CDRH report (required by FDA for laser products)
will be submitted by AltaMAR before shipment.
Circuit protection, wire gages, and wire colors
have been designed according to NFPA 79 specifications.
All wires and terminal positions are labeled and all
wires are properly secured in wire-ways, wire ties, or by other
means.
All panels that provide access to circuits
at more than 50 volt potential are labeled and require a tool
to gain access.
